7 Easy Ways To Cut Your Sugar Intake

We all know that cutting processed sugar from our diet is a good thing, yet somehow sugar keeps finding its way into the things we eat. What can we do? We can be more diligent. Here are 7 easy ways to cut your sugar intake.

Easy Ways To Cut Your Sugar Intake

1. Stop Drinking Soda
You should really know better by now, however, if you’re still drinking soda you need to trade it for water, water with lime or lemon in it, or some other non-sugary drink like tea.

2. Stop Eating Processed Foods
This is the one most people struggle with when it comes to cutting out sugar. Nearly everything we buy that comes in a box, bag, or can has added sugars, sometimes one product has many different types of sugars added. If it’s a convenience food, it’s probably very bad for you.

3. Eat Fresh Fruit. Don’t Consume Juice, Dried Fruit, Etc.
Treat yourself to the natural benefits of fresh, whole fruit. Berries, cherries, grapefruit, lemon, and limes over their higher sugar counterparts apples, bananas, and grapes. Juice and dried fruit taste great, but they are almost entirely pure sugar.

4. Don’t Eat Flavored Yogurt
A 6oz Dannon Blueberry yogurt has 150 calories and 24 grams of sugar. A 12oz Coca-Cola has 140 calories and 39 grams of sugar. Yeah! Don’t eat flavored yogurt! Buy plain yogurt (Greek is best for you) and add fresh fruit and some honey if you still need a little sweetness.

5. Stop Buying Sugary Treats
This is a no-brainer that many people simply ignore. If you have a container of ice cream in the freezer, you’re going to eat it. Save your naughtiest cravings up for your cheat day (tip #7)!

6. Stop Consuming Mixed Drinks
Do you know how much sugar is in a Jack & coke? How about a gin & tonic? I guarantee you its more than you think. If you drink, choose red wine, straight spirits, or mix your spirit with soda water.

7. Have A Cheat Meal or Cheat Day. Eat It Then and Only Then.
Give yourself the freedom to have one cheat day per week where you can have anything you want. If the thought of a whole day of reckless eating bothers you (but it shouldn’t, really) give yourself one cheat MEAL a week and top if off with that sweet, sugary thing you’ve craved all week.
